11 Tips To Soft launch Your New Company Website (Checklist)

A brand new website is the basis for an impressive online presence. Before we determine which features to include on our website, we need to know which search engines consider important factors to assess the website of a company. Otherwise if your site isn’t noticed by your audience, all the fun design and interactive features would be nothing.

Company websites need the same amount of time and attention as their goods or services. It is easy to forget about this when it comes to a new startup, which can result in a lack of important sales opportunities. As a marketing search expert, I always find something to worry about, particularly on the launch day when managing a new site. With these nine main SEO tips, you feel more secure in your user experience when you launch your new website.

“The number-one thing I would focus on is working with stakeholders to educate them on how important SEO is,” says Dan Foland of Postali “Many non-SEOs don’t realize that SEO is crucial to every step of the process. It’s not uncommon for an SEO to get told for the first time something like, ‘We just launched a new website. Can you SEO it now?’ when they really should have been brought in at the beginning of the project.” When talking to stakeholders, it may also help to have an idea of how much you should spend on SEO each month. According to half of our 215 respondents, you’re best off spending more than $500 each month. (

Step 1. Choosing A Domain / Website Address for your business

Although the domain name or a URL is one of the most critical components of your website, business owners sometimes forget it as they hurry through the launch process. You should, however take the time to select a domain name that represents your business and brand correctly and clearly. A good domain name is important: it serves as an accessory to the identity of your business and plays a vital role in optimising search engines. Many businesses do not pick a domain that correctly represents their brand carefully.

I feel it is better to have a branded domain rather than what is called an EMD (Exact match domain) domain. While an exact match domain can have some short term gains for a business it can cause issues with branding later on especially if it is suburb specific, such as, because if you expand your business outside Auckland customers will be instantly confused and your additional SEO marketing may interfere with your EMD related rank and be weak for external location ranks due to confusing Googles algorithm. I feel it is much better to have a branded domain like twitter, google, facebook which is unique to your business.

There are exceptions of course. For example you can buy, these high level high volume EMD domains are an advantage an maybe worth rebranding your business. However, the downside will be you likely will not be able to trademark domain and this the business name and this will in turn make branding hard for you.

The domain represents your organisation and sets the tone of your marketing activities. With an attractive domain name that is easy to remember, it is important to attract new clients.

Step 2. Create detailed Sitemaps

A sitemap is one of the most critical things you can do as a new website user. A sitemap is a document mentioned on your website all pages, categories, specialty pages, files, images and other tools. It is often an XML file that helps to index your website by all major search engines. Without this it will be difficult for search engines to locate and index your content. Making a sitemap is simple with an XML sitemap generator to construct an XML site map and provide detailed details about each Google-indexed page. If you are using a platform such as WordPress, Magento or shopify the sitemap can be automatically generated through the platform or customised through a SEO plugin or extension. After you have configured your sitemap you must submit the sitemap to Google Search Console (which may require you to create an account) and BINGs webmaster service. It is extremely important that these accounts are checked to make sure all pages are being indexed without issue.

This is a good starting point for enhancing the site layout before progressing with advanced SEO techniques.

Step 3. Analyze the Competition

When you launch a new company website, you have to make all sorts of choices. You have to determine how the website functions, for which reason, what style and so on you plan to use.

Your competition is working against you every day, and while this may only be a tiny fraction of what you actually want to compete against, it is important to consider your competition to achieve the success you deserve. The more you know about your competitors and what they do, the more insight you have into what it takes for your niche to succeed. This is especially important in terms of organic search engine marketing, as it is not about being a complete maverick that will win you success. It is actually about measuring what is working for top ranked competitors in different areas for different keywords you want to target assessing what is most likely a universal aspect they all possess and adapting and bettering that for you website.

We would recommend at minimum some analytic SEO tools such as Raven Tools, Ahrefs, Semrush, Serpfox for measuring your ranking progress and then onpage tools such as pageoptimiserpro, CORA, SEO Surfer, SEORuler for making fine adjustments to your content.

Step 4. Select a Reputable Web Hosting Provider

Studies have shown that visitors like fast-loading pages. They decrease bounce rates and raise conversion rates. Amazon found that their revenue increased by 1% for every 100ms decrease in load time. On top of that, having fast loading pages helps your SEO. Especially if you’re taking on the competition on the first page of Google. There, page speed can really make a difference. (

There are many options to consider when choosing a web hosting provider. The most notable options are 1&1 Hosting, GoDaddy, Mebsites Auckland SEO and Hosting and HostGator. You may want a local host if you are somewhere like New Zealand, such as Discount Domains. When registering domains you need to consider the hosting on offer, unless you are going to point your domain at other hosting. Your host quality (Speed and security) can affect your search engine rankings, as website speed, host location, security, OS Version and website uptime are ranking factors.

Step 5. NLP analysis – Integrate Search Intent Focused Keywords in Your Pages

While there are tools for refining your web pages NLP quality and user experience metrics, a good guide to start is to put yourself in the mindset of the users of your website before you build your site. A nice technique for this is the customer avatar model process. What keywords do you think they will use to scan for your industry information? Often use these keywords on the website while writing pages. This not only encourages search bots to go through the page, but also helps visitors find exactly what they are searching for on your website.

Step 6. Your Website must be mobile friendly at the least

Over 80% of internet users browse from their smartphones. So, if your website is not mobile-friendly, those users won’t stick around, increasing your bounce rate and hurting your rankings. (

Non-responsive websites are dead and buried, basically invisible to users. Consequently, studies now show that over 50% of website traffic is generated by mobile devices, most often referred via social media. Not being at least mobile friendly is an instant loss or burnt potential sale for each customer who arrives at your poorly configured website. We would recommend assessing where your customers will most likely being referred from (often this is social media, voice search, GMB referral or mobile search). If the percentage is over 10% we recommend not only being mobile friendly, but mobile focused. This means having your web developers taking the extra time to size and orientate images, buttons, links to look their best on mobile. For example, you create mobile friendly sliders so they are tiny long images lost among giant text headings. You take the time to center your images and titles. You make sure your titles aren’t so long that they dominate each page. You make sure buttons and phone numbers work and display best on mobile and for the different types of most commonly used phones.

Step 7. Strategic Blogging

If your company is just starting up, you must first set up your brand online. This can be an overwhelming challenge that many entrepreneurs can avoid as long as possible. By taking time to build a firm base for SEO-friendly content and build the reputation of your website, you can give your brand a much-needed boost to online credibility when users search through your website.

Don’t make my mistaken, I’m a huge fan of what you’re doing and listing services and that. But what a visitor really wants to know is how is your business going to support my company or helping me? “And what do you know? They don’t want photos of the squad from the last retreat in the pool. Thus make sure you are making your blogs customer focused and about them and their issues and not about yourself or constantly pumping your company.

Organic traffic will, for the most part, follow the 80-20 rule: 80% of your organic traffic comes from 20% of your webpages. (

Company blogging is a perfect way to exchange information with your current customers or future customers. Blog posts can also be a major source of links to boost the rankings for search engines.

Insure your blogs have a purpose, avoid just pumping out non-stop 500 word blogs just because someone recommended it as it is a waste of resources. The first thing you should do is identify an opportunity to rank for a topic or keyword question search. Then assess the competition for the result, cost, resources and commitment to rank the article and keep it current. If the cost benefit is there, then you commence writing a blog and going through the search optimisation process.

Step 8. Earn Backlinks don’t pay for them on Fivver

In addition to the blogging above, we can’t stress how important it is to aim to have the best piece of content for a search result by a country mile. If you truely do have a great piece of content others will reference you and backlink to you. Google use backlinks to assess quality, so backlinks are a vital part of SEO. You will boost your search engine rankings and increase your website traffic if you are successful. Backlinks mean importance for other websites to allow them to connect to you. One of the most powerful and cheapest ways to get backlinks is to comment on other blogs in your niche. This is an excellent place to communicate with other bloggers and business leaders. The more contact you receive, the more likely you are to build a worthwhile relationship that can lead to a connection and good media exposure. As described above, if the quality of the content is industry leading, your blog can also be an excellent place for backlinks.

Step 9. Engage On Social Media

Many new companies get their website up and running, then sit back and hope the world comes knocking. Sadly, this is rarely (never) the case. You tell your SEO expert you’re ready to be found on Google while spending days on designing a logo for your Twitter account. What? If you want the world to find you there are certain things you need to do. You do need a social media audit and strategy. Without it, your company will likely have a difficult time growing its online presence, retaining customers and achieving industry recognition.
It’s no secret; if you’re serious about SEO, you need to understand social media. The majority of search results now include social data, cites and user-generated content. Most importantly, sharing your content on social media is still the quickest way to gain organic traffic and earn backlinks. So while I say below not to overspend or even spend much at all, I do recommend creating all the major social media accounts professionally and setting up automatic syndication services from your website so you at least have some regular posts from your website blogs, which will give you some backlink cred at minimum.
Important Note: While social is important and can be a good source of leads for many businesses. Don’t assume you need to spend a lot of money on it as the profits just might not be there for your business and highly engaged social media campaigns are very expensive if you aren’t doing it yourself. So please keep this in mind, if you are the local lawn mowing guy it’s unlikely you will get a massive following unless you are some super charismatic individual and let’s face it their just aren’t that many around. However, you should at least setup some syndication of your blogs and I would recommend posting the odd candid photo from your phone with pictures of your business or recent jobs. This will give the impression that your business is operating and real.

Step 10. Setup your Google My Business Listing and Website

You can use a GMB service or setup the account up yourself with google. Otherwise known as being listed on Google maps this service is very important for voice search and local business/service searches in Google and can bring a lot of extra local business (the best kind) to your new company.

Step 11. List your business in local and high ranking Directory Services

This is the easiest way to get your business a backlink and open it up to a whole bunch of customers. It’s pretty straight forward to join your business to a directory the secrets of making them work for you is mainly effort. Don’t half ass the content on your listings. Make the content long just like you would for your webpages, make sure you have lots of images, use the tags and make sure you fill our all your info and of course include “some” or at least one backlink with a different keyword or varation.
